Chris Martin

Chris Martin has been involved with the craft of color correction in San Francisco since the mid 1990’s. Chris had worked as a colorist at Riot Pictures in Los Angeles before returning to San Francisco to serve as senior colorist at Retina. In 2005, Chris joined Spy Post as the senior colorist. In 2009 Spy Post was acquired by FotoKem. After spending the first 12 years coloring mostly in a film based workflow for broadcast, Chris now spends most of his time coloring digital cinema camera based workflows for both broadcast and theatrical DI.

Chris is currently working on a freelance basis out of both NTropic and Mission Film and Design both in San Francisco. Please be encouraged to engage Chris for your next project.

In this presentation, Chris will highlight his work on Muscle Milk’s “Stronger Everyday Steph Curry” commercial currently airing during the NBA playoffs, which was conformed and colored at Spy Post using DaVinci Resolve 12 Studio. Many of DaVinci Resolve Studio’s color tools were put to good use to achieve the final look and maintain a consistent color grade. Chris will also cover the process of conforming and media management using Resolve’s editorial tools.

Paul Saccone

Paul Saccone is a Senior Director of Marketing at Blackmagic Design. With more than 15 years experience in technology for professional film, television and commercial video production, Paul is a production and post-production workflow specialist, including large scale data-center and infrastructure technology for high-performance multi-user studios. Prior to Blackmagic Design, Paul developed, built and managed world-class internal production studios for the Marketing & Communications group at Apple.

In this presentation, Paul will demo DaVinci Resolve 12.5, which is a massive update with more than 1,000 enhancements and 250 new features. DaVinci Resolve 12.5 is designed to make it easier for professional editors and colorists to work faster and have more creative options than ever before. DaVinci Resolve 12.5 includes major additions to the editing toolset, as well as new and enhanced color features, including improved HDR support, and powerful new effects.

Frank Slodysko: “Absinthe Tastes on a Coffee Budget, Workflow for The Green Fairy”

Recently completed, “The Green Fairy”
https://www.facebook.com/greenfairymovie/
, is one of Frank Slodysko’s most recent editorial narrative documentaries. Premiered at Sundance, and more recently at Cannes, Monsterpalooza in Pasadena, and soon The World’s Steampunk Fair in Piscataway,NJ, the feature length doc may be categorized as a psycho-fantasy-narrative documentary. In recreated scenes the film captures the world of the “absinthe circles” of the European literary, and cultural scene of the late 19th Century, including a remarkable scene of Oscar Wilde’s last moments. The history covers how the myth of the absinthe induced hallucinations came about, and the REAL reason why absinthe was banned.

From a technical standpoint, the film was edited in Premiere, After Effects and Audition –the entire editorial process was done strictly within Creative Cloud. iZoptope plugins were used to clean up some of the production audio–no ADR was done on this film.

The special effects were done in Nuke. The music was composed in Ohio by Jerome Dillon, former drummer of Nine Inch Nails, using ProTools. Color was done at Technicolor in Los Angeles.
The film was made for about $250,000, but when people guess, they estimate no lower than 1.5 million.

Bio
Born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Frank moved to San Francisco in 2002 to study film at the Academy of Art University, lasting all of three semesters before dropping out and starting freelance work. Since then, Frank has worked with many other filmmakers in all different avenues, and now continues honing his art while living in the city. A multiple award-winner not just for editing but also for sound design, Frank is currently promoting his latest feature, The Green Fairy, while preparing to edit a new nature film from Richard Grieco, currently in production, all while also supporting a local event webcasting company, known for producing TedX events, with media management, video archival methods, and livestream consulting.
