Marco Solorio OneRiver Media : SHOOTING FOR THE EDIT

Using Blackmagic Design Cameras in documentary feature filmmaking

Marco Solorio of OneRiver Media http://www.onerivermedia.com/ takes us behind-the-scenes on the production of the two-hour BMW documentary feature film, “10/10ths” to show how he “shot for the edit” using production examples with comparison samples of the final cut of the film.

Topics of discussion will include (1) production days that required minimum to no crews, (2) maintaining efficient footage acquisition for low shooting ratios, (3) staying true to the story for the edit, and (4) still having options in the edit, (5) including virtual multi-cam edits. We’ll even see the final result of these techniques with a preview from a portion of the film.

Will YOU be the NEXT SF Cutter Speaker?

It is always the goal to have 1-2 presenters at each meeting be an SF Cutter. Who is an SF Cutter? YOU. Be involved in Post Production, and attend Meetings, or follow our social media and you are a member in good standing. Always when I ask people to show work – people are asking for help in finding the courage/ease to speak publicly, or some help in focusing content to present. At this meeting we will provide at least one hour to give you some support. We hope you will be willing and able to present at SF Cutters in the future, or if you take the presentation to another opportunity – it is all good to help the world know about the talent in the SF/Bay Area.

Kevin Monahan, Support Product Manager, Digital Video Applications at Adobe, gives some excellent tips on using PremiereProCC. Also let Kevin know what topics, questions you would like covered about PremierePro at future meetings

Signups are nearly sold out, tickets are only available online

Shaun Farley Skywalker Sound : Sound Design for Film

“If we’re doing our job right, you don’t even notice we’ve done it.” This is how many people describe the philosophy behind editing sound for film. Dialog editing takes that sentiment to the furthest extreme possible. Because while the listener can overlook odd sounds that have been added in post, one mistake in the cutting of production dialog will immediately take the viewer out of the scene. Cutting dialog is a lot like trying to solve a puzzle. Shaun will talk about the decision making process that leads to a solution, techniques for eliminating unwanted elements, things you can do in production to save money in post, and how to prep tracks for the mix stage.

Shaun Farley is a sound designer and re-recording mixer. Since completing his Master’s degree at Emerson College in 2004. He has worked for WGBH Boston, Teleproductions International and currently works as a sound editor at Skywalker Sound. Shaun is also a contributing editor on the Designing Sound website and has presented at The Smithsonian, as well as several Audio Engineer Society conventions.
